Matt Simpson - CEO Black Iron (TSX:BKI)

Matt has over 25 years’ experience in mine operations, construction, design and financing, predominantly in the iron ore and potash sectors.  Prior to war breaking out in Ukraine, Matt and his team advanced the Shymanivske Iron ore project from a historic resource estimate to a near fully construction-ready state by raising ~US$90 million and received expressions of interest for over $560 million in construction funding.  Most recently during the ongoing war in Ukraine, Matt secured a binding commitment from Anglo American, to invest US$4 million in a royalty and binding offtake rights in exchange for funding 15% of project construction costs post war.  From 2002 to 2010, Matt worked for the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC), where he held several progressive roles in business evaluation, operations planning, continuous improvement and in his last three years as Mine General Manager responsible for 650 employees and an annual budget of ~US$300M.  Prior to joining the IOC, Matt worked as a process engineer for Hatch Ltd. designing and constructing metallurgical refineries globally.
