Ian Pearce

Ian Pearce is a seasoned Corporate Director with a history spanning over 40 years in the global metallurgy and mining-related industries. He currently serves as a Non-Executive Director at Metso, where he is also a member of the Audit and Risk Committee. In addition, he serves as a Non-Executive Director and Lead Independent Director, as well as Chair of the Governance Committee at Northland Power, and finally serving as a Non-Executive Director of Next Source Materials and Chair of the Sustainability committee.

His career includes serving as Chair and Non-Executive Director of Newgold, Chair and Non-Executive Director of Nevsun Resources Ltd (prior to its acquisition by Zijin) and a Non-Executive Director at Nexa Resources S.A. for two years.

Mr. Pearce is also actively involved in other key roles within the industry, Chair, and advisor to MineSense Technologies, Chair and board member of Lilac Solutions, Senior Advisor at KoBold Metals, and advisor to Electra. He is the serving President of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) 2024/2025.

Mr. Pearce's leadership experience is further underscored by his role as a partner at X2 Resources, a private partnership focused on building a mid-tier diversified mining and metals group from 2013 to 2017. Prior to that, he served as Chief Executive at Xstrata Nickel, overseeing global nickel and ferronickel operations and projects across North and South America, Europe, Africa, and the South Pacific.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Pearce held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Falconbridge Corporation and delivered an oil sand Project for Shell, as well as on various large scale metallurgical and mining projects for Fluor Inc. in the USA, Canada, Indonesia, Chile, and South Africa.

Beyond his executive roles, Mr. Pearce has made significant contributions to the industry, having served as Chair of the Mining Association of Canada, Chair and Director of the Nickel Institute, and on the Advisory Board of Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100. He has also contributed his expertise to the Trans Canada Trail Foundation Board.

Mr. Pearce's academic background includes an Engineering HND in Mineral Processing from the University of Johannesburg, a BSc degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, and additional management training from the University of the Witwatersrand and Henley College in the United Kingdom.
