Risk Management Through Innovations in Geomechanics

Significant effort throughout the mining industry is put into the development and application of technological advancements in geomechanics and ground control.  Technological innovations linked to improved data collection methods, modernized processes for monitoring program execution, and state-of-the-art analysis approaches, all offer significant safety, productivity and economic benefits to operating mines. This short course will showcase state-of-the-art innovations in geotechnical data collection, site characterization, monitoring, geomechanical design analyses and ground control management.  Through workshop style discussions and case study presentations, the practical application of technologies to quantify hazard and manage geomechanical risk will be demonstrated. Participants will gain familiarity with leading best-practice tools and insights for effective and efficient adoption of these tools in mining operations.

About the instructor:  

Lindsay Moreau-Verlaan M.A.Sc., P.Eng. (Ontario) is a Principal Geomechanics Consultant with RockEng Inc.  With 20 years of professional experience, Lindsay has developed technical expertise in underground rock engineering, mine design, geomechanical analyses and operations ground control. She is proficient in strategic design approaches to rock mass stability and excavation safety, with a focus on hazard management.  Additionally, Lindsay provides experienced knowledge in the application of tactical ground control measures and excavation monitoring programs to manage geomechanical risk.
