About the instructor:  

Andrés Alvarado is a Project Leader, Electronic Civil Engineer, Product Development & Field Robotics Expert, and Electronic Civil Engineer from the Federico Santa María Technical University. He has 12 years of experience in mining designing machinery that integrates new technologies such as artificial vision, thermography, x-rays and laser. He has invention patents in Chile, the United States, Peru and Australia. Some of the projects he has led as Head of Automatic Control include:  

- Robotic soil sampling development for ERG in Saudi Arabia.  

- Robotic conveyor belt inspection in Chile, Zaldivar Mine.  

- Surface, on-line inspection of copper cathodes using artificial vision, Mineras Spence, Cerro Colorado, Minera Escondida.  

- Online inspection of conveyor belts using artificial vision, Codelco-El Teniente.  

- Remote monitoring (1000m) of leach heaps using thermography, Spence.  

- Online inspection of conveyor belts using X-rays, R&D project with financing CORFO.  

- Online measurement of movements of SAG mill foundations during starting using laser, Codelco-Andina.
