SHORT COURSES

Applied Geostatistics and Mineral Resource Estimation

2 DAYS 9:00 to 17:00

Applied Geostatistics and Mineral Resource Estimation

Level: Introductory

Facilitator: Abani Samal, GeoGlobal LLC

Mineral resource estimation is a multi-step process that requires knowledge of the geology of mineral deposit formation, controls of mineralization, data interpretation, and geostatistical analyses. An effective application of geostatistics in mineral resource estimation requires a complete understanding of the controls of mineralization and characterization of the geological domains using the drill-hole data.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Geological controls and styles of mineralization

  • Project development and studies in mining project development

  • Data types and data quality

  • Introduction to Exploratory Data Analyses (EDA)

  • Introduction to Geostatistics and variogram analyses

  • Interpolation and grade estimation

  • Kriging: Kriging Matrix, Kriging weights

  • Resource Classification

  • Reporting mineral resources

Short Course Objectives:

This course will allow participants to gain knowledge on typical steps followed in resource estimation and the application of linear geostatistics in this process. They will learn the critical aspects of the applications of geostatistics in mineral estimation. Emphasis will be given to the best practices. The participants will learn about software tools used in resource estimation.

Target Audience:

  • Geologists in exploration and mining projects

  • Mining Engineers

  • Project Managers

  • Other professionals in the mining industry
