Proposed Changes to NI 43-101 - Analyzing the Changes and the Industry Feedback

Abstract:
June 12, 2025, the Canadian Securities Administrators published proposed changes to the NI 43-101 rule, Companion Policy, and Technical Report Form and received 79 comment letters from a broad range of stakeholders in the mining industry. The two day short course will review the proposed changes to NI 43-101, summarize the industry feedback based on the comment letters that were posted on the Ontario Securities Commission website, and facilitate discussion on the impact these proposed changes could have to mining companies that would be required to follow the proposed new rules, policies, and technical report form content, should these changes be adopted. The course will also examine changes that should be considered with any future update to NI 43-101, recent CIM practice guidelines that have been prepared to help guide practitioners in the mining industry, and the proposed new definitions in the CIM Definition Standards document.
Short Course Objectives:
To help participants understand current and proposed mining disclosure rules, and the practice guidelines that support these rules.
Target Audience:
Officers and directors of public mining companies that report in Canada. Qualified Persons and other subject matter experts that prepare mining disclosure documents. Exploration and mining personnel that prepare scientific and technical information on mineral projects that may form the basis of mining disclosure by a public mining company reporting in Canada.

This course is to be presented by Dr. Greg Gosson, Practice Leader- Mining Disclosure, WSP Canada, Inc. and Stella Searston, Principal Geologist, with Mine Technical Services, Inc. Stella and Greg have both received recognition in the mining industry for their efforts towards improving standards and leading practices in the mining industry.
