Course

Earthmoving Equipment Productions

FULL DAY 8:30 to 16:30

Earthmoving Equipment Productions

Level: Intermediate
Facilitator: Troy Dunow, AECOM

Abstract:
This course provides a practical overview of construction and mining equipment and its production within the context of large-scale earthmoving and excavating operations. Participants will explore the economics, selection, utilization, and productivity of popular construction and mining equipment, along with the procedures critical to heavy civil and mining projects.

Throughout the course, participants will learn how to determine earthwork quantities, understand equipment utilization, and evaluate equipment production rates under real-world operating conditions. The course will also consider key geotechnical constraints and site conditions that influence equipment performance, as well as important safety considerations associated with heavy mobile equipment.

Additional focus will be placed on how haul distances, ramp grades, and haul road geometry affect cycle times, fuel consumption, operating costs, and overall operational risk. The course balances productivity and cost considerations with safe, controlled earthmoving practices applicable to both heavy civil construction and mining environments.
