Michelle Ash is CEO of Dassault Système’s Geovia Division. In her role, Michelle helps shape and execute Dassault Systèmes’ strategy to ensure the growth in the natural resources segments, as well as the successful delivery of next-generation solutions based on 3DEXPERIENCE. Michelle also serves as Chair of the Global Mining Guidelines Group (GMG) facilitating innovation and collaboration in the mining sector. Previously, she was a Chief Innovation Officer at Barrick and oversaw the company’s Innovation program, looking both at how innovation can drive productivity in the existing business as well as how it can be harnessed to deliver alternative business models. She has more than 20 years of experience in the mining and manufacturing sectors with a focus on business improvement and change management. Ash was named to the 2016 list of “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining” by Women in Mining UK.
Mark O’Brien currently serves as the General Manager for Digital Technology and Innovation (CIO) at CITIC Pacific Mining, the world’s largest magnetite iron ore operation, and China’s largest resources sector investment outside of China. Mark has extensive management experience across strategy development, operational models and readiness, digital transformation and operational change management. His background has traversed a number of diverse sectors such as geophysics, ICT, construction, education, financial services and mining. He has an involvement in mining technology that stretches over 30 years. He is a graduate of Curtin University with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. Mark is also the Chair of the GMG AI in Mining Working Group.
Nigel is Head of Group Technical – Processing leading the Rio Tinto Group’s Centres of Excellence for Processing, Asset Management, and Energy & Climate Change, he also leads the Company’s Technology Strategy. He holds a BSc (eng) and PhD in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Imperial College, London, UK and is an Associate of the Royal School of Mines. He holds an MBA from Queen’s University, Canada. Nigel has worked for Rio Tinto for 31 years in the aluminum, copper & diamonds divisions of Rio Tinto holding various operational and functional positions across the company in R&D, Environment and Technical Management, Regional Industrial Development, Technology Sales, Operational Excellence and Climate Change worldwide, and in his previous role he was the Managing Director of Copper & Diamonds Operations.
Dr. Mohammad Babaei has worked in a variety of contexts including open pit mines, consultancies, and universities. In his current role at Teck, he guides and supports digital innovations that improve safety, sustainability and productivity. For example, he led projects applying machine learning in mining and maintenance and developing a unique real-time diggability solution. He holds a PhD in Mining Engineering from the University of British Columbia and published several scientific papers and won several awards for his work. In 2017, he was featured CIM Magazine as one of their "Names to Know” feature. In 2018, he received one of the CIM-Bedford Canadian Young Mining Leaders Awards.
