Message from the Vancouver Convention Centre on the status of the Coronavirus:

Regarding the latest information on the ongoing developments around the new coronavirus (known as 2019-nCoV), the Vancouver Convention Centre would like to assure the attendees that measures have been put in place to amplify cleaning and sanitization processes throughout the facility.

At this time, the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) has determined that risk within British Columbia continues to be considered low. Regardless, the Vancouver Convention Centre have taken additional precautionary measures to further support our high standard of cleanliness. These include:

  • Implementing enhanced cleaning and sanitizing protocols by our housekeeping team
  • Scheduling additional housekeeping staff during event days for greater coverage of high-touch areas
  • Placing additional hand sanitizing stations throughout both buildings

Delegates are also encouraged to follow proper hygiene etiquette while attending the event. The World Health Organization recommends that individuals:

  • Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water
  • When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – throw the tissue away immediately and wash hands
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has a fever and cough

Our General Manager, Craig Lehto, has been communicating with the BCCDC and Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) to ensure we are doing everything that we can to create a safe environment. We will continue to monitor this situation closely, and will take direction from the BCCDC as well as provincial and federal authorities as required. For the most up-to-date and reliable information, you can refer to the World Health Organization’s 2019-nCoV resource page and the BCCDC website. And for local information, please see VCH’s ‘Information on novel coronavirus’ page on their website.
