La séance plénière du congrès de l'ICM 2016 vise à polariser l'attention et à axer le dialogue sur le thème de la conférence, L'excellence au premier plan. Des chefs de file de diverses disciplines du secteur minier et d'autres secteurs sans rapport avec l'industrie minière sont réunis dans le cadre de ces discussions stimulantes.

MODÉRATEUR : Colin Joudrie, Vice-président à la prospection commerciale et directeur générale du CESL, Teck Resources
Colin Joudrie est vice-président à la prospection commerciale et directeur général du CESL chez Teck Resources. Ses responsabilités consistent à diriger et à soutenir toutes les activités de prospection commerciale de Teck dans les domaines du charbon métallurgique, du cuivre, du zinc et de l'énergie ainsi que toutes les autres marchandises exploitées présentant un intérêt, les acquisitions d'entreprises et les évaluations stratégiques. M. Joudrie a rejoint Teck (à l'époque Cominco Ltd.) en 1991 et a travaillé comme géologue prospecteur et spécialiste de la prospection commerciale. Après avoir obtenu sa maîtrise en administration des affaires, il a réintégré la société Teck en 2002 pour travailler dans le cadre d'initiatives de prospection commerciale pour les produits et la technologie, et s'est particulièrement intéressé à la fonderie de zinc et plomb (Zn-Pb) de Trail et ses plus de 20 produits distincts. En 2006, M. Joudrie a rejoint l'équipe de développement de l'entreprise et a orienté ses activités sur les acquisitions et les désinvestissements. Depuis 2009, il occupe son poste actuel chez Teck, qui consiste à améliorer l'ensemble des activités de la société.

James Gowans, Président, chef de la direction et directeur, Arizona Mining
Mr. Gowans was formerly Co-President of Barrick Gold Corporation from July 2014 to August 2015 and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from January to July 2014. Recent prior roles include Managing Director of Debswana Diamond Company (Pty) Ltd., President and Chief Executive Officer of De Beers Canada Inc., Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of International Nickel Indonesia tbk PT and Executive Vice President at Placer Dome Inc. Mr. Gowans has more than 30 years of experience in mineral exploration, mine feasibility studies, opening new mines, commissioning mine expansions and in the development of best practices in mine safety, mine operations and economic performance improvement. He is currently chairman of the board of the Board of Dominion Diamond Corporation, and a director of Cameco Corp and was recently appointed a director of Gedex Inc., an innovative geophysics systems company. He previously served as the President of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) and as a Director of the Conference Board of Canada. Mr. Gowans is a Professional Engineer and received a bachelor of applied science degree in mineral engineering from the University of British Columbia and attended the Banff School of Advanced Management.

Phillips S. Baker, Président et chef de la direction, Hecla Mining Company
Phillips S. Baker, Jr., has been Hecla Mining Company’s Chief Executive Officer since May 2003 and has been a member of the Board since 2001. He has over two decades of experience in the mining industry with operating companies and has participated in a number of financings and mergers and acquisitions during his career. During Mr. Baker’s tenure, Hecla transitioned from small mines to three high-quality, long-life operations: Greens Creek, the largest silver mine in the U.S.; the Lucky Friday mine, a 70-year mine with 25 additional years of life due to the construction of a new shaft; and the recent acquisition of Casa Berardi gold mine. And also the addition of the recently reopened San Sebastian silver-gold mine near Durango, Mexico. Additional accomplishments under Baker’s leadership include Hecla’s settlement of 20-year litigation and also the issuance of long-term low debt. Hecla’s financial position is as strong as it has ever been.

Randy Smallwood, Président et chef de la direction, Silver Wheaton
Mr. Smallwood holds a geological engineering degree from the University of British Columbia and is one of the founding members of Silver Wheaton. In 2007, he joined Silver Wheaton full time as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development, primarily focusing on growing the company through the evaluation and acquisition of silver stream opportunities. In January 2010 he was appointed President, and in April 2011 he was appointed Silver Wheaton's Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Smallwood originally started as an exploration geologist with Wheaton River Minerals Ltd., and in 2001 was promoted to Director of Project Development, his role through its 2005 merger with Goldcorp. Before joining the original Wheaton River group in 1993, Mr. Smallwood also worked with Homestake Mining Company, Teck Corp. and Westmin Resources. Mr. Smallwood was an instrumental part of the team that built Wheaton River / Goldcorp into one of the largest, and more importantly most profitable gold companies in the world, and is now focused on continuing to add to the impressive growth profile of Silver Wheaton.

Donald R. Lindsay, Président et chef de la direction, Teck Resources Limited
Don Lindsay joined Teck as President in January 2005, was appointed to the Board in February 2005 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in April 2005. He is a graduate of Queens University (B.Sc., Hons.) and Harvard Business School (M.B.A.). He is currently a director of Manulife Financial Corporation. Mr. Lindsay was employed by CIBC World Markets Inc. (investment banking) from 1985 to 2004 where he was President of CIBC World Markets Inc., Head of Investment and Corporate Banking and Head of the Asia Pacific Region.
